What to do while waiting for the dentist
Toothache or swelling
Seek prompt care, even if the pain decreases. Facial swelling with fever needs immediate assessment. Ask a pharmacist about pain relief and follow the medicine leaflet. Do not take leftover antibiotics without a prescription.

Seek dental care immediately. Hold the tooth by its crown, never its root. Do not scrub it. Keep it in milk or, if unavailable, saline; do not let it dry out. Never reinsert a baby tooth. If unsure whether it is permanent, do not reinsert it yourself.

Contact a dentist urgently. Keep any recovered fragment in milk or saline. If the tooth has moved but remains in its socket, do not manipulate it.

Apply sterile gauze or a clean cloth with moderate pressure for about four minutes. Seek urgent care if bleeding continues or the wound is large. After dental treatment, follow your dentist’s instructions.

On Sundays and public holidays, check the official list of on-call dentists in Bouches-du-Rhône and call before travelling. If care cannot wait and no dentist is available, contact a hospital dental service; for serious symptoms, call 15 or 112.
